Summary
Article on Regulation (EU) 2018/302 on unjustified geo-blocking, in force since 3 December 2018. It sets out the context, including a European Commission survey of 2017 showing that 63% of websites did not allow customers from another Member State to complete an online purchase, and the Regulation’s aim of ending discrimination based on nationality, place of residence or place of establishment. It then details the scope of the Regulation, the new obligations and prohibitions on access to online interfaces, access to goods and services and payment methods, the interaction with other EU rules and enforcement by the Member States.
